Hometown Live! Reclaim, Record & Preserve Local History
“Life is a daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller.
What if we could capture life in our small town and preserve it for generations to come? What if we could preserve the stories of our elders and reclaim the history that has been lost or forgotten by so many? What if local artists could archive their works? What if your story or child’s story could be recorded and shared? Community events and personal stories available for viewing by future generations may be a real possibility with your help. Just visit http://www.drobo.com/promos/100drobos/100drobos_gallery.php and vote for Hometown Live! or send 150466 in the subject line of an email to 100drobovote@drobo.com.

One Year in The Making
If you missed the final Open Mic Night at the Coffee Loft Thursday evening you missed the surprise of the year. There may or may not have been one outstanding performance (I am a biased parent) but as a whole these teenagers did amazing. Having attended every Open Mic Night this year I can promise you the growth in this one year has been astounding. I will keep the article brief and let a few (somewhat) random videos explain the rest.
Most of the following performers are minors therefore names have been intentionally omitted.

parents, grandparents, dogs on leashes and even a child on a leash were
treated to a concert in the park. The weather was perfect as the sun sat softly
behind the historic buildings in downtown Garnett during a Jr. High and High
School combined band concert on the Court House lawn. The smell of fresh
popcorn provided by the Student Council was the proverbial icing on the cake
while we listened to the classic mix of tunes artfully designed to conjure
memories of our favorite childhood cartoons.
Directed by the ever-humble band teacher, Jeff Russell ...

Practice Makes Perfect
This was a Mass Casualty Drill performed in Garnett, KS on May 16, 2011. The scenario involved a school bus full of high school students and an Anhydrous tank. While the Mass Casualty Drill held in Garnett on Monday was far from perfect it was evidence that practice is an important part of any success story. The one thing that is certain as a result of today's test is that there will be changes made in our community's emergency response plan. The reality is that the exercise was a huge victory because of the experience gleaned without the loss of a single life. I was thrilled to be a witness to so many professional heros working to perfect ...

Angels Fly Around Garnett
MidWest Missionair is the name of an amazing missionary group based in Garnett. In the group's newsletter they explain their work as "We exist to make aviation services available to any group or person working in Christ’s love". In 2001 the group purchased a Piper Aztec and began flying missions 2 years later. In 2004, along with a group of volunteers from Heartland Community Church in Overland Park, the team began the process of completely remodeling the aircraft.Gordon Blackie and his band of volunteers will be holding an Open House to dedicate the finished twin engine Aztec aircraft at the Garnett Industrial Airport on June 5, 2011. The event will be held at the Midwest Missionair Hangar ...
